Men's Winter Coats/Jackets - The Parka | Men's Fall Winter Essentials Series - Down

(upbeat music) - Hey, welcome back to my Men's Fall and Winter Essential series.

So when I first released my peacoat and overcoat video and article, a lot of New Englanders,Canadians, and Northern Europeans complained that they couldn'twear any of my favorite pieces because they just weren't warm enough.

Now, I'll admit it, livingin Southern California, excuse me, has actually skewed myperspective in this regard.

So, let's rectify this.

To me, there's reallyonly one winter jacket that I like and thatlooks great on everyone, and keeps you nice and warm, and that is the parka.

But not all parkas are created equally.

I'm over this hood.

So, first and foremost,I'm constantly asked for stylish winter jackets.

When it comes to crazy cold weather, I think that utilityshould supersede style.

And that's not to say that, my hair has gone crazy, that's not to say yourparka isn't stylish, but no one's going tolook at you in your parka, and think, "Wow, youroutfit looks so amazing.

" Parkas are designed to go over your outfit and be taken off thesecond you step indoors.

So, if you really want tolook stylish in cold weather, then wear one of my fall jackets, or an overcoat or peacoat, and layer like your life depends on it.

So, let's quickly go over what to look for in a good parka.

First, depending on yourclimate, and how cold it gets will determine how longyour parka should be.

So, the colder your climate,the longer your parka.

So, you'll want a hip-length parka if you live in a climatethat's cold but not crazy cold.

If you live in the tundra,then you'll want a parka that goes down to yourknees or even past that.

If you live somewhere whereit's kind of in the middle, then you want to go with a parka that hits about mid-thigh.

So, just don't be that guy in San Diego wearing a knee-length parka.

It's just too much, and looks weird.

As for colors, I lovenavy, black, and olive.

Just make sure thematerial isn't too shiny.

If I had to choose a color, I prefer navy becauseit's still really dark, but it's easily wearable.

Olive is also a really great color, too.

Black can sometimes look a bitjarring in such a big jacket, but all of those colors willlook perfectly acceptable.

Next, make sure your parkafits relatively well.

So, what I mean by that is you want the shouldersand body of your parka to lightly hug everywhere.

You don't want it to betoo loose or too tight.

So, when you are trying ona parka for the first time, it's really important thatyou're wearing at least a sweater and shirt.

Make sure to zip up that bad boy, because you want to ensure that it doesn't fit too tightly in the body.

As far as lining goes, I prefer down, but synthetic is perfectly acceptable.

But I just think that downkeeps you a little bit warmer, but as always, your mileage may vary.

So, the last feature youwant to look for in a parka is a detachable fur trim on the hood.

This is not a deal breaker, but is more of a convenience thing.

I just think it's nicewhen you have the option of removing that fur trim.

That way you just get twodifferent looks out of one jacket.

Even though they're mostly a utility item, and style takes a backseat,I couldn't help but style a parka outfit for you.

So, one of my favorites is by Parajumpers.

I really like the fitof all of their jackets.

So, I style this navy parka, with a crewneck sweater,wool trousers, and wingtips.

And, of course, I threw on a scarf and some gloves to finish it all off.

SOCK BOOTS They fit like a glove around yourfoot and leg: tight around your shapes, there’s no way to hide imperfections! If you’rethick around the calves, then move away from high stretch boots such as Balmain‘s andopt for those by Burberry: you’ll still be trendy, and your legs will thank you.

LACE UP BOOTS The laced-up effect is hereto stay – and not just for shoes.

Rather than ballet flats though, the Fall Winter2017-2018 fashion shows seem to have been inspired by mountain wear: the style is definitelysporty and gritty, even though these are still fancy, heeled boots, and the laces are oftenin bright colors, just like mountaineering ropes.

Very cool, though we must ask: howlong will it take us to put them on in the morning? (Please, tell us there are zips hiddenin there!) BUCKLED BOOTS Straight from the 60s, suedeor jacquard style, jeweled, or very much 90s style, with minimal buckles and modern materialssuch as snakeskin and calfskin: if you’re looking for some basic boots with interestingdetails, buckles are for you: you’ll nail the style.

Men's Fall & Winter Jackets - Bomber, Utility, Trucker, Field, M65, Wool, Leather, Suede, Nylon

(upbeat music) - Hi, welcome back to my men's fall and winter essential series.

So there are three types of jackets that I love for fall and winter if you live in a climatelike southern California where our winters are very mild.

If you have a crazier winter, then I made a winterjacket story just for you.

Anyways, there are threetypes of jackets that I love.

First is a bomber jacket.

Second is a trucker or flight jacket, and the third type is a utility jacket also known as a field jacket or a M65 or a safari jacket ora thousand other names.

Now which one you should wear will depend on your body type as well as how you'll be wearing it, but I'll get into that shortly.

The goal with your jacket and really everything else you'll be wearing is to create a sharp, polished look that doesn't draw attention away from the rest of the outfit.

That being said, your jacket is a great place to insert those fall colors and patterns I was talking about in my series intro video.

First up, I love a good wool or suede trucker or flight jacket.

I'm loving these two styles together because they look very similar.

A trucker jacket isbasically a denim jacket, but the ones I'll be recommending will be in a different material.

The reason why I will not be recommending a denim jacket is because they're more of a spring/summer item since they don't really keep you very warm.

The main difference between these two is a trucker jacket will have buttons down the front, and a flight jacket willhave a zippered front.

With these types of jackets though, you'll wanna make sure it ends at the hip level just like a bomber would and that it's nice and fitted throughout the shoulders and torso.

There are a lot offlight jackets out there that have a shearling or fur collar, but I recommend choosing a jacket that has the option ofremoving the collar.

That way you get two different looks out of one jacket.

If you are a broader guy, I wouldn't recommend these types of jackets because the combination of the collar with the shorter jacket length will actually make youlook really top heavy.

So if you do have this body type, I recommend going with a bomber instead because it'll just look more streamlined on your frame.

Speaking of bomber jackets, I consider them the utilityinfielder of the jacket world because they look greaton every body type.

I use them all the time with my clients, and I just think they do a really great job with breakingup your body at the waist and keeping everything proportional.

If you are a bigger gentleman, you should never zip up your bomber jacket because if you do, it's actually gonna create this huge swath of fabric that will actually kind of act like a spotlight on your stomach area.

Instead, keep your bomber jacket unzipped because it'll actually help break up your body verticallyand make you look slimmer.

But if you have a slim or regular build, then go crazy.

You can have it zipped up all the way, half-zipped, a little bitzipped, doesn't matter.

So the last type of jacket I love for fall and winter is a utility jacket also known as a safari, field, M65 jacket.

I'm sure there's a million other names.

This jacket differsfrom my other favorites in that if it fits well, it should actually end between mid to lower crotch.

So it's a really great option if you want a slightly longer jacket.

The thing you wanna make sure though is that it's not anylonger or shorter than that because it'll actually throw off the proportions of your body.

So I really like this style jacket if you are a broader gentleman, even more so than a bomber jacket because the slightly longer jacket length as well as the pockets on the front really help break up your broader torso and make you look slimmer.

If you are a thinner guy, you just wanna be carefulwith a style jacket that has a hood in the collar because it'll actually create a really chunky, heavy looking collar around your thinner frame, especially the neck area making you look even skinnier.

Instead, you wanna actually make sure you get this jacket with a standing collar or with a collar that's at least free from any kind of puffiness.

Regardless of your body type, you wanna make sure this jacket is very fitted throughoutthe body, the sleeves.

Otherwise, you're gonna look like you're swimmin' in a bunchof fabric and pockets which you don't want, especially if you are a broader gentleman 'cause it'll only make you look bigger, and if you're thinner, it's gonna make you look even skinnier.

As for materials, I reallylike wool, suede or leather for your bombers, truckersand flight jackets.

I just think that these materials compliment the heavier items you'll be wearing this season.

Now for utility jackets,anything but leather goes.

I just think a leather utility jacket looks a little too 70s porn-starish to me.

Nylon, as long as it doesn'tmake that swishy noise.

Cotton, wool, suede, those are all really great materialsfor a utility jacket.

As for colors, I really like a camel, dark green, navy or black.

These work great for allof these styles of jackets.

So those are the three types of jackets I love for fall and winter.

Fall haul 2016 - Haul autunnale 2016 feat. Primark, Modcloth, Asos, Ted Baker & Zara | Giugizu

>> Hi giugizers and welcome back, or if it's your first time here, hi, welcome to my channel I'm Giuliana and I upload new videos every monday and friday so if you haven't yet subscribe in order not to miss any! Autumn has officially started which means 2 things The first one is that it's time to switch the wardrobe to Fall clothes which is something that terrifies me but it also means that we can treat ourselves with some new Fall clothes and as I'm a shameless shopaholic I got a bit over excited and in the past 2 months I bought a ton of Fall clothes As I know you usually enjoy this kind of videos I decided to share them with you so let's jump into it because I have a pile of clothes here I tried to divide the clothes per brand and I'll start with Modcloth.

If you follow my channel you already know that I love Modcloth, it's an american site specialized in vintage/retro inspired clothes where you can find some unique pieces.

I hadn't been on it for a while, so when in the mid of September I logged in there were a lot of new products waiting for me and I bought 3 pieces.

I featured the first one among my September faves because I'm obsessed with it I'm talking about this 50ies inspired flared skirt grey with a black polka dots print I love how it fits and I love the fabric because it's neither too heavy nor too light, and apparently I developped an obsession for grey and you'll see it recurring among my purchases.

By the way I remind you that, as usual, on my blog you'll find the list of all these clothes with direct purchasing links so if you like something you just need to click on the link in the infobox and you'll find the list so if I don't mention the prices, because I can never remember them or if want more details, the best way is to head over to my blog.

So the first favourite is this skirt that I already wore a whole lot.

The second favourite is another skirt it's a bit different though, it's still flared, but it has a floral print all over with very autumnal colors The fabric is a light polyester, but warm enough for this season I liked the idea of a fall floral print because it adds an hint of color but it's quite muted so it doesn't look like a summer skirt I haven't worn it yet, but I'm sure I'll do it very soon because I love the print Always on Modcloth I also bought a pair of shoes, pardon me while I grab them that I featured in my September favourites video too so I'll show them quickly now, they're some faux suede grey flats with some cute bows and cutouts all around They are comfy, cute, not too boring and I wear flats a lot because they're easy to pair and comfy So these were my 3 Modcloth purchases.

Then I have a few Ted Baker pieces The first one is this basic wool sweater, but the peculiarity is this bow made of ribbon I like it because it's a basic piece, but with a twist I like how it fits and usually I like to wear this kind of sweaters in late autumn and winter, so when I saw it I had to get it and I paid it I can tell you because there's still the label on, 99 pounds which is quite a lot, but if you're familiar with Ted Baker you know that it's quite expensive.

so a sweater and then I got a wool cardi I like that its a bit tighter on the waist without buttons and it's super simple and basic and easy to pair in many different ways Then I bought a dress that I wore during my UK road trip and during the fair in Frankfurt if you watched the vlogs you probably noticed it I love it, it has this cute cutout on the neckline a big zip on the back It's tight on the waist and falls nicely on the hips and it has the same cutouts at the bottom too Maybe it's a bit too short for me, but I love it and I think that with some thick tights will look great moreover it even has pockets, which is always a plus in a dress Now let's move to Asos, at the end of August, taking advantage of the sales I bought this simple red dress it has the classic cut I like, tight on the waist and flowy on the hips with a round neckline and the brand is Club L there no price on the tag, so I can't tell you, but I'll link it on my blog and it has this cute detail on the sleeve, three golden domed buttons that add a retro flare to the dress.

Always on Asos I also got.

Sorry about the noise, everytime I put a piece down e.

BAM goes the hanger I also bought this skirt it's really structured, flared, highwaisted and the brand is Coast it's quite chic, it has pockets and I haven't worn it yet but I liked the idea of pairing this structured, plain, black skirt in many different ways, for example with a leather jacket for a more edgy look, or with a white blouse for a more preppy look or with a little sweater, so there are plenty of possibilities for a skirt that in my opinion will be highly wearable throughout fall and winter Ok, those were my Asos purchases, I hope I'm talking quickly enough because I still have a few pieces to share so let's move to Zara For a while I didn't manage to find anything interesting in Zara but this time I found 2 pieces that I really love The first one is this lacey top quite sheer and see through so you have to wear something underneath I like the contrast collar and this short flowy sleeves it comes down straight as you can see I wore it during the fair in Frankfurt too because it's a piece that can be formal, but you can also make it look more casual.

The second piece I got from Zara is quite unusual for me it's a long dress and I don't wear often long dresses mainly because as I'm not very tall they make me look chubbier and shorter but this one c-c-c-onquered me.

Lol c-c-c-c this one conquered my heart as soon as I saw it it has a autumnal floral print and it's tight on the waist but falls nicely on the hips it has a little collar and 3/4 sleeves and once I tried it on I fell in love and I had to have it because sometimes it's nice to try new styles too Ok, those were my 2 Zara purchases Now let's move to Primark I've been in Primark in Frankfurt, because everytime I'm in a city with Primark I have to check it out in Italy we only have one, in Arese, and it's quite hard to buy Primark clothes as they don't sell online either.

Not all the times I find some interesting things but this time apparently I did find a lot starting from this black and white long and quite basic cardi these are the classic go - to pieces, the ones that you end up wearing throughout fall and winter during Fall you can wear it as a coat and in Winter as a warm cardi simple, straight, long, perfect to pair with pencil skirts, with jeans and in many other ways and I paid it 22 euros as usual Primark prices are unbeatable and it's a basic piece I'm sure I'll wear a lot Then I got a top, you saw me trying it on in my Frankfurt vlog here it is and I paid it 13 euros I love the floral print I like the 3/4 slightly frilled sleeve the frilled neckline and it has another frill on the chest I think it will look great both with jeans and skirts and a cute top for 13 euros it's something you can't go wrong with very similar, because once again it has a floral print, it's this blouse, always from Primark I paid it 13 euros too I'm obsessed with this little bow I love the round collar with a contrast edge present on the pocket and on the cuffs too It's cute and light, perfect to pair with a chunky cardi or in this middle season with a leather jacket Then.

C'mon hurry up, I don't to talk too much a cascade cardi, the ones with the buttons to wear crossed like so it's soft and lightweight perfect for the middle season and it's grey yes, grey again and I paid it 14 euro we're almost at the end, the last two pieces are jeans that I got from Primark I paid these ones 17 euro and I think the other ones too which I featured in my September favourites video They are skinny ankle jeans with the fraied edge I like how they fit they're slightly elasticated and they have some rips and cuts at the bottom and a bit everywhere they are the classic blue jeans, easy to pair with everything and the other ones that I featured among my September favourites are grey, they come a bit longer and once again are ripped and I'm loving them a lot.

As far as lining goes, I prefer down, but synthetic is perfectly acceptable.

But I just think that downkeeps you a little bit warmer, but as always, your mileage may vary.

So, the last feature youwant to look for in a parka is a detachable fur trim on the hood.

This is not a deal breaker, but is more of a convenience thing.

I just think it's nicewhen you have the option of removing that fur trim.

That way you just get twodifferent looks out of one jacket.

Even though they're mostly a utility item, and style takes a backseat,I couldn't help but style a parka outfit for you.

I really like the fitof all of their jackets.

So, I style this navy parka, with a crewneck sweater,wool trousers, and wingtips.

And, of course, I threw on a scarf and some gloves to finish it all off.
